Robert K. Maloney,
MD, MA (Oxon), is
an ophthalmologist and
a cataract and LASIK specialist
in Los Angeles, California,
where he is Director of the
Maloney Vision Institute. Dr.
Maloney has personally performed
more than 50,000 eye
surgeries.
He specializes in providing
optimum vision without glasses using laser and
cataract surgery. He is a former Rhodes Scholar and
Summa Cum Laude graduate of Harvard University;
he completed his education at Oxford University
and Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Maloney is also
Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UCLA. He
was voted by his peers as one of America's top ten
vision-correction specialists in a nationwide survey
conducted by Ophthalmology Times.
He is the recipient of the prestigious 2001
Distinguished Lans Award, given annually to one
surgeon in the world for innovative contributions to
the field of vision correction surgery. The American
Academy of Ophthalmology awarded him the Senior
Honor Award for contributions to the education of
other eye surgeons and the Secretariat Award for
contributions to the Academy. Dr. Maloney is also
co-author of LASIK-A Guide to Laser Vision
Correction, and he has published more than 100
articles, abstracts, and reports in professional
journals and has delivered more than 200 invited
lectures on five continents.
Dr. Maloney's research is focused on developing
new surgical techniques, including the
implantable contact lens and the light-adjustable
lens implant for cataract surgery. He developed the
"Maloney Method," a widely used way of calculating
lens implant power for cataract surgery in patients
with prior LASIK surgery. He has been a principal investigator for fifteen FDA clinical trials. Dr.
Maloney has appeared frequently on television as
the eye surgeon for the ABC hit series Extreme
Makeover. He has been interviewed by the
Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, NBC's
Extra, ABC's 20/20 and Prime Time Live, PBS's Life
and Times, and CNN's The World Today.
