During your cataract surgery, your natural, cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a new, implantable intraocular lens (IOL).

Seeing Near, Intermediate And Far—With A Single Lens.

Prior to the development of multifocal intraocular lenses, the goal for IOL surgery was to restore vision for simple tasks like watching a favorite TV show, driving or other distance related tasks. With standard IOLs, it was still necessary to wear glasses or contact lenses for reading or close work, but the improvement in clarity was still vastly superior to dealing with the blurred vision caused by cataracts. Advances in the technology of IOL have made it possible to give patients the choice of different multifocal IOLs that correct vision at all distances; far, near and everything in between. Where your grandparents had the choices of bifocal or trifocal glasses, today’s multifocal IOLs provide the same vision correction without the maintenance necessary when relying on corrective glasses or contact lenses.

Types of Multifocal Lens Implants Offered in Los Angeles

There are many multifocal IOLs available to cataract patients but only a few meet our high standards. These lenses not only restore and enhance our patient’s vision but also reduce their need for glasses. These are marketed under the names of Clareon PanOptix® IOL, Clareon PanOptix Toric IOL, Tecnis Synergy IOL and Tecnis Synergy Toric IOL.

PanOptix Lens

Dr. Shamie and Dr. Hura are now offering an exciting new advancement in advanced intraocular lenses. The PanOptix IOL is the first and only FDA-approved trifocal lens implant. It provides patients with high-quality distance, intermediate, and functional close-up vision thanks to new technology.

What’s Different About PanOptix?

  • The technology of the PanOptix lens offers patients the broadest range of vision all in one lens as compared to any other cataract lens implant in the US. The PanOptix trifocal lens was developed using ENLIGHTEN Optical Technology, which optimizes intermediate vision without compromising the quality of near and distance vision.
  • Before the PanOptix lens was FDA-approved in the US, it was the leading lens technology offered to cataract patients in more than 70 countries.
  • Based on the FDA study, over 99% of patients who receive the PanOptix lens would choose the same lens again.

Can PanOptix Correct My Astigmatism?

Yes, astigmatism can be corrected at the time of cataract surgery with a special PanOptix lens, which is specifically designed to correct astigmatism.

Will I Be Able To Give Up My Glasses With PanOptix?

  • There is no guarantee that you will never need glasses again, especially for reading small text. Most patients achieve sharp, clear vision for distance and intermediate (computer) work in both bright and dim light.
  • Many patients who have PanOptix lenses can check a text message on their smartphone or read a menu in a restaurant. You may still need to use reading glasses for some close-up tasks like reading a newspaper or a prescription label.
